About the project
Project title: Transformation of Competencies at the University: Peer-Tutoring as a Key Element of Student Development Support (Peer-EDU)
Funding: National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), Poland
The project aims to build and strengthen the role of peer-tutors – students who support their younger colleagues in adapting to academic life, both socially and academically. Peer-tutoring is increasingly recognised at European universities (e.g. in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany) as an effective method to reduce student drop-out, foster integration, and enhance transversal skills valued on the labour market.
Our goal is to professionally prepare students and academic teachers to take on the role of peer-tutors and peer-tutor trainers. In cooperation with the University of Malta and the University of Split, the University of Gdańsk will:
- design and implement peer-tutor and peer-tutor trainer training programmes,
- conduct surveys and research to adapt training content to real student needs,
- create a digital knowledge platform supporting peer-tutors and trainers,
- provide recommendations, reports, and training programmes,
- test and implement peer-tutoring through pilot activities.
The project will culminate in the international conference “VIVA DYDAKTYKA” – Conference on Higher Education Didactics in May 2026, where outcomes and student experiences will be presented.
In the long term, Peer-EDU will enable partner universities to establish and sustain peer-tutoring programmes, expand cooperation within the SEA-EU alliance, and promote best practices internationally.
